Colin Slade(The How 2 Trainer). Has been speaking and training at events around the country. He has a Bachelors Degree in Human Computer Interaction which focuses on making technology easier for people. He previously worked for a software company(PlanetJ Corp.) as a Developer and then VP of Sales and Marketing and focused on online training systems and web applications. He has trained companies such as Wells Fargo, Reebok, Wabash National, Borders Book, Deloitte and Roland Music. He is passionate about online business and technology and is the Owner of How2Trainer a web consulting and training company. He has developed technology training products that even his Mom can understand which helps people learn, navigate and fix their computer, technology, internet and small business issues. How2Trainer was created for two main reasons. First and foremost it was created to help those of you who are trying to start a home based business, small business or just learn about their technology. Secondly it was created to facilitate a community and forum for people to dialog about problems and successes. The goal of How2Trainer is to give you the solutions, tools and support necessary to build a successful business. This site teaches you the basics of the internet, your computer and technology through innovative training methods. We are passionate about helping you overcome your struggles and become confident on the computer and internet.

Training my Mom can use…

My name is Colin Slade and I began to think about How2Trainer at the end of 2007 because my Mom (she was a “stay at home mom” for my brother and me all through school) never really had the opportunity to earn a degree or start a career. She never had confidence in the business world and was not sure what she was going to do after my brother and I left for school. We were blessed to be presented with a business opportunity from a dear friend. My mom immediately started to gain confidence and made money with this company. The problem was that my Mom has basic internet skills such as email and word processing but never had to learn the more in depth features of the internet or her computer. This meant that she would call me (the family computer doctor) constantly. If you happen to be the “computer doctor” in the family then you know that the word spreads quickly and pretty soon everyone is calling you: friends, aunts, cousins and random people for anything related to computers. I soon realized that I could not help everyone and that many people had the same questions. I decided to start creating How2 Help Tutorials that discussed different concepts to educate them step by step on How2 perform different tasks on the internet and their computer from a very personal perspective. Now my mom is able to go through the training and teach other people how to do things on the internet or just point them to the training to learn for themselves. I am so proud of my mom for the savvy business woman and technology queen that she has become and the relationships that she continues to build and inspire. I hope that you enjoy this site which has internet, technology and computer tips for all levels. A little about how I came to this…

I have always grown up around the computer and have always enjoyed being on the computer. I decided to pursue Computer Science at the University of California, San Diego but after a few months realized that I did enjoy working on the computer but also enjoyed people. At UCSD I always seemed to be stuck in the basement coding for hours upon hours with guys (a few girls) that just did not want to talk. I decided to switch my major to Cognitive Science (Wikipedia definition) with a specialization in human computer interaction. Basically we studied the brain along with technology and in the process tried to make them work well with each other. The purpose was to design technology and software that would make the world easier and better, rather than complicated and frustrating. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and the knowledge I was able to absorb. I then worked at a small software company (PlanetJ) as a Java developer and later VP of Sales and Training where we created Web Applications for medium to large companies such as (Wells Fargo, Reebok and Roland Music). My boss threw me into training a large group of IT managers and developers on the software product that we sold and, after a lot of initial nerves, I realized I really enjoy teaching people. More specifically, I enjoy teaching technology in a slow step-by-step concise way so that anyone can use the tools. I have since taught a few hundred people through online training sessions for companies all over the world and have really enjoyed it.

I am excited about the opportunity that all the free online tools give businesses and people and I am dedicated to training, and teaching people through the process of learning the basics of technology, computers and the internet so that you can make your business a success, and navigate in the new digital age with fun and confidence.
